Hi, I’m Michael Brown. I’m a hospice nurse, writer, and former Marine.

The Friendly Death Project is brand new. I’m building it to give death a better reputation, through honest education, conversations with the dying, and public talks about what really matters at the end of life.

This site will grow to include:
• a death-education curriculum for schools
• a podcast featuring people who are dying
• speaking and workshop opportunities

For now, this is just the beginning.

There is also a book in progress: The Friendly Death Project is a memoir and meditation on dying told through the eyes of a hospice nurse who has helped hundreds of people take their final breaths. It blends bedside stories with reflection on how facing death reveals what it means to live. The book also explores the struggles of modern hospice care and imagines a future where the Medicare Hospice Benefit truly serves both patients and caregivers.
